Hampshire's Shear Testing Specialists!
Working across Hampshire and the South, we specialise in providing industrial, private and commercial clients with reliable, accurate and fast shear testing.
As one of Hampshire's leading diamond drilling and pull out testing specialists, we provide a variety of clients from across Hampshire and the surrounding area with the highest quality in fast and accurate shear testing solutions. Designed to accurately and quickly apply stress to a test sample to determine whether it will be able to withstand potential levels of stress and shear forces, our diamond drilling and shear testing service is ideal for the fast and accurate testing of a range of fixings and fastenings, including screws, nuts and bolts.
It is incredibly important to have your bolts, screws, fastenings and fixings accurately and regularly shear tested to avoid potentially costly failures in the future. We therefore utilise the very best materials and equipment to quickly, safely and efficiently undertake shear tests at industrial and commercial premises across Hampshire and the South, so arrange your free property survey and no obligation quotation at your convenience by calling our experienced diamond drilling and shear testing team on 01474 822785.
How shear testing works
Shear testing is one of the most effective and fastest ways of accurately and efficiently testing fixings and fastenings. Usually, shear forces cause one surface of a particular material or structure to move in one direction and the other surface to move in the opposite direction. This makes sure that the material involved is stressed in a simple sliding motion. Our unique and accurate tests differ greatly from compression and tension tests, as the forces applied are parallel to the two contact surfaces, meanwhile in compression and tension tests they are perpendicular to the contact surface.
Why is shear testing important?
Shear testing and stress testing is incredibly important, given it determines the shear strength of the material and therefore the maximum shear stress that it is able to withstand before failure begins. In fact, this is one of the most important design characteristics of many types of fastenings and fixings, like screws and bolts. For example, if a small fastener fails in shear, it could potentially lead to a chain of failures that could lead to the entire destruction of a large structure or building. That is why it is very important to have your fastenings and fixings are accurately tested by dedicated and experienced professionals.
A wide range of materials tested
There are a multitude of materials that are commonly tested in shear, including adhesives, layered composites and rigid substrates. The common rigid substrates that may be shear tested may be composed of ceramics, metals, woods, composites and plastics but usually come in a solid form that's often used as building materials or fasteners. We will also test adhesives, as these are likely to experience shear stress when the materials are pulled in opposing directions in an attempt to slide them apart.
